๐Ÿ‘‹ My Personal Story

One persistent problem haunts all young girlsโ€”the desire to lose 10 pounds. For me, this happened in front of one million subscribers.

I started my YouTube channel, Kawaii Sweet World, when I was 12 as a hobby to share baking tutorials. I kept posting videos regularly, and by the time I graduated high school, it had grown to 1.2 million subscribers and led ****to appearances on the TODAY show + Disney Channel, plus a cookbook deal with Random House.

From the outside, everything seemed to be perfect. But inside, I was struggling.

I believed if I looked better, I might sell more cookbooks. My videos might perform better too. That thought spiraled into obsessive calorie counting, restrictive dieting, and overexercising.

I got help during college but the problem of eating disorder care stuck with me.

How many girls suffer through this every year? Why is disordered eating a rite of passage for girlhood? Why do we let this steal our joy and derail our ambitions?

๐Ÿฅ‘ย Building the future of eating disorder care

Eating disorder care is outdated

To me, there were three major issues with care:

  1. Taking the first step towards recovery is intimidating.
  2. Patients need always-on support, not just once a week sessions.
  3. Existing solutions feel cold and clinical instead of joyful and rewarding.

We built Callie, a consumer mobile app for eating disorders

So in July โ€˜24, Sonny Mo (Thiel Fellow, scaled prev co. Bloom to 2M+ members) and I built Callie.

Callie is a Tamagotchi-like experience where you take care of a cute virtual cat by taking care of yourself.
